Is the trunk lid of your Chrysler 300 slamming down unexpectedly, or does it feel incredibly heavy to lift? Over time, factory gas shocks lose their pressurized nitrogen gas, compromising their lifting force. Don’t risk injury or hassle at the grocery store. Upgrade to our premium, heavy-duty Chrysler 300 trunk struts and restore that effortless, brand-new trunk operation in less than 10 minutes.

Engineered to meet or exceed original equipment (OE) standards, these replacement gas springs provide consistent lifting force, smooth dampening, and unmatched durability across all seasonal temperatures.

What Are Chrysler 300 Trunk Struts?

Chrysler 300 trunk struts—often called trunk lift supports, gas shocks, or gas springs—are small but powerful mechanical devices that assist you in opening and holding up the heavy steel trunk lid of a Chrysler 300 sedan.

Instead of using old-fashioned, bulky metal tension springs, modern vehicles like the Chrysler 300 rely on these compact hydraulic-gas cylinders mounted on both sides of the inner trunk hinge mechanism.

Common Symptoms of Failed Trunk Struts

When automotive trunk struts (gas shocks) begin to fail, they rarely stop working instantly. Instead, they give off distinct warning signs as the internal pressure degrades. Recognizing these symptoms early can prevent a heavy trunk lid from dropping unexpectedly and causing injury.

  • Trunk Slams Down Unexpectedly: The trunk opens but crashes down without warning. The internal seals have leaked nitrogen gas, and the struts can no longer hold the weight.
  • Heavy and Hard to Lift: You have to use your own strength to push the trunk open. Healthy struts should do 90% of the lifting for you.
  • Fails Only in Cold Weather: The trunk stays up in summer but drops in winter. Cold temperatures reduce the internal gas pressure, causing weak struts to fail completely.
  • Visible Oil Leaks: You see greasy oil residue on the shiny metal rod. This means the internal seals are broken, and the gas pressure is gone.
  • Won’t “Pop” Open Automatically: When you press the key fob button, the trunk unlocks but stays completely flat. You have to wedge your fingers underneath to pry it open.
  • Squeaking or Hissing Noises: A hissing sound means gas is escaping. Squeaking means the internal lubricant is gone, causing dry metal-on-metal friction.

Common Chrysler 300 Trunk Struts OEM Specification Sheet

The Chrysler 300 uses two different configurations of trunk struts across its generations. The First Generation (2005–2010) requires a shorter overall length but a higher lifting force (345 N) to handle the decklid geometry. The Second Generation (2011–2023) moved to a longer overall length with a lower force rating (270N). Both generations utilize standard 8mm shafts, 18mm bodies, and 10 mm nylon ball sockets for mounting.

10-Minute DIY Installation Gas Struts Guide (No Special Tools Required)

Replacing your Chrysler 300 trunk struts is an easy DIY project that requires only a small flat-blade screwdriver and about 10 minutes of your time.

  • Prop the Trunk Securely: Open your trunk completely. Have a friend hold the trunk lid securely, or use a sturdy prop rod to prevent the heavy lid from falling during the swap.
  • Release the Retaining Clips: Locate the metal retaining clip on the ball socket at either end of the old strut. Insert your flat-blade screwdriver under the clip and pry it slightly outward (you do not need to remove the clip completely).
  • Remove the Old Trunk Strut: Pull the old strut away from the car’s ball stud. Repeat the process for the other end of the strut.
  • Install the New Trunk Strut: Simply line up the ball socket of your new strut with the vehicle’s ball stud and press firmly until it snaps into place. The internal spring clips engage automatically—no prying required!
  • Repeat & Test: Repeat the steps on the opposite side, remove your prop rod, and gently test the smooth lifting motion of your trunk.
