How to Confirm the Right Strut Before Ordering
The safest way to avoid a wrong order is to measure your old steering column gas strut. You need three numbers:
- Extended length — from center of one mounting hole/ball socket to the other, fully extended.
- Stroke — how far the rod travels from fully compressed to fully extended.
- Push force (N) — usually printed on the cylinder label. If not, match by vehicle model.
Installation: What You Need to Know
Most steering column gas struts are direct replacements. No drilling, no special tools.
- Time: Typically 15–30 minutes.
- Tools: Basic hand tools (screwdriver, pliers, sometimes a small pry bar).
- Steps: Support the steering column → remove old strut clips/bolts → install new strut → test tilt and lock.
- Important: Replace both gas struts at the same time if your column uses two, to keep support balanced.
