DIY Installation Hood Struts Guide

Replacing GMC Acadia hood struts is a simple DIY project requiring only a small flat-head screwdriver.

1. Prop the Hood: Securely prop the hood open with a sturdy wood block or prop rod. Never attempt to change struts without holding the full weight of the hood.
2. Release the Retaining Clip: Locate the thin metal band clip on the back of the old strut’s ball socket. Use a flat-head screwdriver to pry the clip outward slightly (do not remove it completely).
3. Pop Off the Old Hood Strut: Pull the old strut away from the vehicle’s ball stud. Repeat for both ends.
4. Snap On the GASTAC Hood Strut: Align the new GASTAC strut’s ball socket over the ball stud and press firmly until it clicks into place. No clip prying is required for the new unit.
